All First Responder units are reminded that the deadline to submit your update pack to the New York State Department of Health is December 31, 2011. The Department of Health plans to deactivate any agency that does not return the packet. If you have any questions, please contact us (or the Department of Health) ASAP. This is not a Columbia County EMS project; it is a New York State DOH project.
Names Added to EMS Memorial

Three EMS professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty were honored last Wednesday during the New York State EMS Memorial Dedication Ceremony. The names of LeRoy Kemp, Karen Hand and Paul Bazinet were all added to the Tree of Life memorial. Kemp was the captain of the Fire Police for the Tioga Center Fire Department, serving the community for 59 years. At the age of 82, he was still an active member of the department and died while responding to a mutual aid call Jan.13, 2010.
Hand served as chief of the Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad and as deputy EMS coordinator for Broome County. She suffered cardiac arrest Oct. 5, 2010 while providing care for a patient during an ambulance transport. She was 55.
Bazinet, an EMT with Empire Ambulance Service and a technician in the emergency department at Glens Falls Hospital, became ill following the transport of a patient and suffered cardiac arrest Jan. 3, 2010.
